Recently I wrote about Putting The Heart Back Into Homeschooling and told you about how I just went through a time of regrouping and reflection regarding my approach to homeschooling. One of the values I realized was important to me and had been neglecting was a love and study of nature.

Encourage quiet listening and drawing about things your child observes in nature.

So without realizing it, I’ve begun a series of printable packs addressing items on my list of homeschool values that I want to incorporate more into our lives. Last week I created a Curiosity Driven Report Writing pack to facilitate report writing for my young kids. This week, studying nature was on my heart so I created this Nature Explorer Guide to help walk my little ones through the process of learning through exploring nature.

Of all the materials I’ve created, this is one of my absolute favorite lesson packs yet.

We invited some friends to come over and go on a nature hike to try it out. We had such a great time. There are many activities to choose from in the guide – completing half of them earns your child the Nature Explorer badge and certificate.

We found another use for our light table! We placed our creek water sample on the light table and inspected it with a magnifying glass. Don’t have a light table? Make your own DIY Light Table!

Guide Preparation Instructions: If your printer has a double sided printing option, select the 2 sided printing version and print as-is with the double sided printing option chosen. If you do not have this setting but want the double sided folded guide, print even pages, then flip the paper and reinsert it and print the odd pages, according to how your printer works. If you don’t want to mess with printing on both sides, download the single sided version then print, cut & staple.
